Established in 1971 the International Forum on Diplomatic Training (IFDT) is an informal gathering of Deans and Directors of Diplomatic Academies and Institutes of International Relations. This annual meeting is devoted primarily to the discussion and exchange of information about recent trends in diplomacy and experiences gained in training for diplomatic and international careers. The Forum serves as a valuable platform for exchange of views concerning training programs, teaching methods and service requirements and offers an occasion for networking and cooperation.

The 2019 IFDT will take place from 18 to 21 September 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland and will be hosted by the Graduate Institute, DiploFoundation, Geneva Center for Security Policy, and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). This year’s agenda will focus on….

The previous forums were held in Washington (2018), Santiago (2017), Canberra (2016), Warsaw (2015), Pretoria (2014), Baku (2012), Boston (2011), Malta (2010), Vienna (2009, 2006, 2004, 2001, 1999) and many other cities. The main themes covered during the meetings included topics such as: multilateral diplomacy at the United Nations and other international organizations, regional dimensions of diplomatic training, diplomacy of small states in the globalizing world and environmental diplomacy.
